Greenwich Entertainment has acquired U.S. distribution rights to A Girl Unknown, the debut feature from Chinese filmmaker Zou Jing, according to Deadline. The film had its world premiere in Critics Week at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival, where it won the FIPRESCI Prize and the Gan Foundation Award. It subsequently won the CineVision competition prize for Best International Film by an Emerging Director at the Munich International Film Festival. International sales are handled by Pyramide Films.
A Chinese-French co-production, the film traces an adopted young woman across fifteen years and four households during the peak of China's One Child policy. She receives a new name at each threshold: from Lin Juan to Wang Juan to Wu Lian. The story is adapted from Zou's 2021 award-winning short Lili Alone. Li Gengxi (Resurrection) and child actor Cao Ruofan share the lead role across the film's timeline. Cinematography is by Zhongqiang Liang.
Greenwich plans to route the film through the North American fall festival circuit before a theatrical release in early 2027. "I'm deeply grateful to Greenwich Entertainment for bringing the girl's journey to audiences in the U.S.," Zou said. Greenwich added that they were pleased to present "this exciting new cinematic female voice from China."
Zou Jing also wrote the screenplay. Production companies include Pure Light Films, Maneki Films, Memoria Films, Emei Film Group, and Eagle Media. Greenwich's catalog includes work from directors Fernando Eimbcke, Michel Franco, and Lance Hammer.
