Shonda Rhimes and Shondaland have renewed their overall deal with Netflix for five years, keeping the partnership alive through 2031. The agreement covers series, films, games, merchandise, and live events attached to Shondaland projects, according to The Wrap.

Rhimes and producing partner Betsy Beers first moved to Netflix in 2017. The renewal arrives as the streaming landscape has been shifting. The Duffer Brothers departed for Paramount in 2025. Ryan Murphy moved to Disney in 2023. Rhimes, whose Bridgerton franchise has accumulated 610 million views since 2023, remains Netflix's most commercially reliable auteur.

Netflix CCO Bela Bajaria said in a statement: "Few creative partnerships have shown what's possible when a singular vision meets a global stage." Bajaria added that Rhimes' work has come to "shape fashion, music and culture far beyond the screen."

Rhimes responded: "Netflix has provided Shondaland with the autonomy and support to tell our kind of stories."

Under the new deal, Shondaland has several projects in the pipeline. The Residence, starring Uzo Aduba, is expected from the studio. A Grey's Anatomy spinoff set in Texas is set to premiere in 2027. A Bridgerton live experience, part of the expanded merchandise and events scope of the deal, is also in development.
