The new trailer for Verity positions the film as exactly what its source material promised: a psychological trap with two women circling the same man and the same manuscript.
Directed by Michael Showalter and adapted by Nick Antosca from Colleen Hoover's 2018 novel, Verity stars Dakota Johnson as Lowen Ashleigh, a struggling writer hired to ghostwrite the remaining books in a bestselling series. Josh Hartnett plays Jeremy Crawford, the husband of Verity (Anne Hathaway), whose remote estate becomes the setting for the film's central unraveling.
The premise turns on a manuscript Lowen discovers. An autobiographical document she cannot verify as fiction or confession, it implicates the woman she is working for and blurs her attraction to Jeremy. The film does not resolve the ambiguity quickly.
Principal photography took place in New York City from February to April 2025. The film was originally slated for May 15, 2026, before Amazon MGM moved it to October. Verity is the third Colleen Hoover adaptation released through Amazon platforms, following It Ends With Us in 2024.
Anne Hathaway serves as a producer alongside Showalter, Antosca, and Hoover herself. International distribution falls to Sony Pictures Releasing. The October 2 date is worldwide theatrical.
