Additional photography on Greta Gerwig's Narnia: The Magician's Nephew began Monday at Shepperton Studios, six months after principal photography wrapped. The work is expected to last no more than two weeks. The principal cast is not expected to participate, according to Dark Horizons.
According to World of Reel, a rough two-hour cut was screened for test audiences in Paramus, New Jersey earlier this year with visual effects still incomplete. The screenings "did not go well and underwhelmed Netflix brass," per the outlet's reporting. Netflix mandated the additional photography. A source cited by NarniaWeb describes the work as "additional photography happening, not reshoots."
Principal photography ran for six months across three studios: Shepperton, Longcross, and Cardington. Location work took place in London, Manchester, and Bradford. Gerwig's adaptation shifts C.S. Lewis's Victorian-era origin story to a post-war 1950s setting.
The ensemble includes Daniel Craig, Emma Mackey, Ciarán Hinds, Carey Mulligan, and Meryl Streep. Seamus McGarvey served as director of photography. The score comes from Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt.
The film was originally planned for November 2026. It now carries a February 12, 2027 theatrical release date, followed by an April 2, 2027 Netflix debut.
