Imax reported record third-quarter results on Thursday, posting $175 million in revenue against a Wall Street estimate of $154 million. Earnings per share reached $2.21, up from $0.47 in the same period last year.

The driver was Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey. The film generated $550 million in worldwide Imax box office, accounting for 77 percent of the platform's Q3 global box office record of $712 million. It screened in Imax 70mm at 41 locations worldwide and drew around-the-clock demand on opening weekend. It is now the highest-grossing release in Imax history.

CEO Richard Gelfond called it "a historic cinematic achievement crafted entirely with Imax technology," and described the quarter as a broader awakening to the platform's potential, beyond a simple record-breaker. Net income came in at $117 million, up from $103 million in Q3 2025, though the figure includes a $236.7 million deferred tax benefit released during the quarter. Imax shares rose roughly 1.2 percent in premarket trading following the report.

The company's Q4 slate includes Ramayana, The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, and Dune: Part Three. For 2027, Imax has announced Star Wars: Starfighter, Avengers: Secret Wars, and a first-ever theatrical re-release of the original Star Wars in Imax. Whether the platform can sustain this pace without another Nolan film in the mix is the question the next two quarters will answer.
