Marvel Studios has found its Scott Summers. Kit Connor is in talks to play Cyclops in the studio's X-Men reboot, according to The Wrap. The Heartstopper star joins Samara Weaving, already cast as Emma Frost, in the first standalone X-Men film since Disney's 2019 acquisition of 21st Century Fox.
Jake Schreier directs. Lee Sung Jin, creator of Beef, wrote the script, with Joanna Calo contributing a new draft. It is the first standalone X-Men film produced entirely under the Marvel Studios banner.
Connor has built a career well beyond the Netflix series that first made him a star. He appeared in A24's Warfare and has the Elden Ring adaptation ahead. Cyclops is the X-Men's field commander and a founding member of the team. The character first appeared in X-Men #1 in 1963, created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. His optic blasts, uncontrolled without a ruby quartz visor, function as both his defining weapon and a source of ongoing isolation.
The reboot signals Marvel's intent to rebuild the mutant franchise from the ground up rather than extending Fox-era continuity. The X-Men franchise has grossed over $6 billion worldwide since its 2000 debut. Whether Connor's deal closes and when the film enters production remain unclear.
