Five films in the global top ten, including two that crossed $1 billion, carried the studio past a threshold no other distributor has reached this year.

Universal Pictures crossed $4 billion at the global box office on August 3, 2026, becoming the first studio to reach the milestone this year. It is the fifth time in the studio's history and its first since 2023.

The studio's cumulative total splits into $1.53 billion domestically and $2.48 billion internationally. Two of the only three films to cross $1 billion worldwide in 2026 are Universal releases: The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, which held the number-one spot for three consecutive weekends, and Michael, for which Universal serves as international distributor.

Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey opened to $263.8 million globally, his biggest opening to date, and has since grown to $911 million worldwide. Minions & Monsters recorded the seventh consecutive number-one opening for the franchise and has earned more than $400 million globally.

Focus Features, Universal's specialty arm, contributed Obsession, now at $475 million worldwide. According to Universal, it is the highest-grossing film in Focus Features' history, and the first film since E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial in 1982 to grow in both its second and third weekends.

Universal and Focus Features account for five of the ten highest-grossing films globally in 2026. The studio has led the global weekend box office on ten weekends this year.
