The 51st Toronto International Film Festival has announced the first group of honorees for its annual Tribute Awards gala, set for September 13, 2026 at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel. TIFF CEO Cameron Bailey revealed the five names on July 29.
Penélope Cruz receives the TIFF Special Tribute Award, presented by CHANEL. Cruz arrives at the festival with two films in this year's program: Florian Zeller's Bunker and La Bola Negra, making her presence one of the more layered of the season. Isabelle Huppert and Rosalind Eleazar each take home the TIFF Tribute Performer Award.
Lee Chang-dong, whose Possible Love will world premiere in Venice's main competition the week before TIFF opens, receives the Ebert Director Award, presented by The Tory Family. Siân Heder receives the TIFF Tribute Award in Impact Media, presented by Anne-Marie Canning. Her latest film, Being Heumann, serves as the festival's opening-night presentation on September 10.
"From the captivating performances of Isabelle Huppert, Penélope Cruz, and Rosalind Eleazar to Lee Chang-dong and Siân Heder's vital filmmaking, each has shown a profound impact on screen storytelling," Bailey said.
The gala is TIFF's largest annual fundraiser. The eighth edition lands at a moment when several of this year's honorees are already deep into the fall awards cycle, with work premiering across Venice, Toronto, and beyond through the end of the year.
