Universal has locked in its acting submissions for Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey ahead of the 99th Academy Awards season. The studio is submitting six performers for individual consideration: Matt Damon for Best Actor, Anne Hathaway and Samantha Morton for Best Supporting Actress, and Tom Holland, Robert Pattinson, and John Leguizamo for Best Supporting Actor.

Left off the individual ballot: Zendaya, Charlize Theron, Lupita Nyong'o, Elliot Page, Jon Bernthal, and Himesh Patel. According to Gold Derby, billing constraints limit the number of ensemble names a studio can submit for individual consideration, which shaped the final list.

Hathaway's placement in supporting rather than lead is the campaign's clearest strategic call. A lead actress run would put her in direct competition with Julianne Moore in The Debut. In supporting, she enters as a frontrunner by most forecasts. Samantha Morton, who plays Circe, takes the second supporting actress slot.

The film is submitting for 19 categories in total, including Best Picture for producer Emma Thomas alongside Nolan, and Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay for Nolan himself. The Odyssey has led Best Picture forecasts since its summer release. Several excluded performers may still factor into ensemble categories at the SAG Awards and Critics Choice.
