Sony Pictures Entertainment announced a $100 million investment in Cosm on June 24, becoming the lead investor in the immersive venue company's Series C funding round. The deal gives SPE a minority ownership stake in Cosm.

Cosm operates a network of domed auditoriums featuring 60-foot wraparound ultra-high-resolution screens. Its venues host what the company calls "shared reality" programming: adapted films and live sports events presented inside the dome. Existing locations include Inglewood, Atlanta, and Dallas. Cleveland and Detroit openings are in development.

SPE CEO Ravi Ahuja said the studio had "followed Cosm since before launch and have been impressed" with audience response, according to Deadline. Cosm CEO Jeb Terry described Sony as "one of the most storied technology and entertainment companies" in relation to advancing fan experiences.

The investment is framed around Sony intellectual property, technology integration, and fandom engagement. It places Cosm alongside IMAX, Sphere, ScreenX, and 4DX in a growing premium exhibition landscape where the format itself, not just the content, is the draw.

How far shared reality venues can scale into a meaningful theatrical tier is still unresolved. Sony's stake suggests the studio sees enough in the concept to find out.
