Sebastian Stan and Ana de Armas will star in Impunity, an espionage thriller from Felipe Gálvez, the Chilean filmmaker behind 2023's The Settlers. The film explores the 1998 arrest of dictator Augusto Pinochet in London, marking the first time a former dictator could face justice beyond his own country.
Pathé launches the package at Cannes. Stan received his first Oscar nomination this year for The Apprentice, where he portrayed Donald Trump. De Armas earned her Oscar nomination in 2023 for Blonde, becoming the first Cuban nominated for Best Actress.
Gálvez's debut The Settlers premiered at Cannes 2023 in Un Certain Regard, winning the FIPRESCI Prize. The revisionist Western examining Chilean colonial violence was selected as Chile's Oscar submission. Shot between Chile, the UK, and Spain in English and Spanish, Impunity follows two covert operations as a mercenary and Chilean envoy navigate conspiracies and geopolitical maneuvering.
The film is based on Philippe Sands' book 38 Londres Street and reunites Gálvez with key Settlers collaborators including cinematographer Simone D'Arcangelo and composer Harry Allouche. Alfredo Castro, Antonia Zegers, and Alejandro Goic complete the cast.
