Samara Weaving is the MCU's Emma Frost. Marvel Studios confirmed on July 31 that Weaving will play the telepathic mutant in the studio's untitled X-Men reboot, directed by Jake Schreier.
Emma Frost was created by Chris Claremont and John Byrne, first appearing in the 1980 Dark Phoenix Saga storyline as a Hellfire Club villain. Her powers include telepathy and the ability to transform her skin into diamond. Over decades in print she evolved into one of the franchise's most layered figures, eventually becoming a core X-Men member. January Jones previously played the character in X-Men: First Class.
Final auditions took place around Independence Day weekend 2026. Weaving emerged as the clear choice among final contenders, according to CBR. Whether she enters the film as hero or antagonist has not been disclosed.
The screenplay comes from Michael Lesslie, Joanna Calo, and Lee Sung Jin. According to SlashFilm, Sung Jin has indicated the film draws from Claremont's 1970s-1990s run on the comics, with possible influence from modern iterations by Grant Morrison and Joss Whedon.
2026 has been a significant year for Weaving, with three film releases: Ready or Not 2: Here I Come, Over Your Dead Body, and Carolina, Caroline. The X-Men role marks her first entry into the MCU. No release date has been announced.
