A24 has set September 25 as the US theatrical release date for Primetime, Lance Oppenheim's first narrative feature. Pattinson plays Chris Hansen, the NBC correspondent who built To Catch a Predator into one of the defining television phenomena of the 2000s.
Primetime enters competition for the Golden Lion at the 83rd Venice International Film Festival, running September 2 through 12. It opens wide in the United States one week after the festival closes.
The film is set in 2006, following Hansen as he creates and fronts the Dateline NBC series. The script is by Ajon Singh. Oppenheim, whose three-part HBO documentary Ren Faire won widespread critical attention, is making his fiction debut here. Pattinson also serves as a producer through his Icki Eneo Arlo banner.
The cast includes Merritt Wever, Skyler Gisondo, Matthew Maher, Bokeem Woodbine, Anna Faris, Phoebe Bridgers, Sean Bridgers, and Jonathan Lipnicki. Cinematography is by David Bolen.
Gold Derby places Pattinson eighth among Best Actor contenders for the 2027 Oscars. A Venice run in competition, followed by an immediate wide release, puts that campaign in direct play.
