A new Alien film is in development at 20th Century Studios, with Aaron Guzikowski attached to write the screenplay, according to Deadline. Guzikowski is best known for writing Denis Villeneuve's Prisoners (2013) and creating the HBO Max series Raised by Wolves.

Ridley Scott will produce through his Scott Free banner. The connection between Scott and Guzikowski goes back to Raised by Wolves, where Scott directed the first two episodes. At 89, Scott is not expected to direct the new film.

The project connects to the mythology of Scott's Prometheus (2012) and Alien: Covenant (2017). It is not a sequel to Fede Álvarez's Alien: Romulus (2024). No director, cast, or release date has been announced. Michael Fassbender, whose android David closed Covenant on an unresolved note, is not attached to the new film.

Twentieth Century Studios is running the project alongside Alien: Earth, the FX prequel series currently shooting its second season. How the two productions will coexist in the franchise's expanding timeline has not been addressed.

Guzikowski's sensibility could bring something new to the material. His work on Prisoners and Raised by Wolves leans toward theological weight and slow-burn dread. Whether that registers in a franchise associated with spectacle as much as horror remains to be seen.
