Warner Bros. released the first full trailer for Practical Magic 2 on June 24. It reunites Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman as the Owens sisters, twenty-eight years after Griffin Dunne's 1998 original. The sequel opens in theaters September 11, 2026.
Susanne Bier directs from a screenplay by Akiva Goldsman and Georgia Pritchett. Goldsman co-wrote the original film, giving the sequel a degree of authorial continuity. The story follows Sally and Gillian Owens as they confront a multi-generational family curse that condemns everyone they love to die. Bier's recent work includes Bird Box and The Undoing on Netflix.
Returning to the Owens family are Stockard Channing as Aunt Fran and Dianne Wiest as Aunt Jet. New additions to the ensemble include Joey King, Maisie Williams, Xolo Maridueña, Lee Pace, and Solly McLeod. Bullock and Kidman produce alongside Denise Di Novi, who produced the original.
The trailer strikes a tone that is simultaneously gothic and dry. Kidman's Gillian addresses the curse plainly: "A really horrible death...It's not great for the Tinder bio." Channing's Aunt Fran grounds the emotional core: "No magic is stronger than sisterhood."
The sequel adapts Alice Hoffman's later Owens family novels. The 1998 original earned a devoted following in the decades since its release, making Practical Magic 2 one of Warner Bros.' more anticipated September releases.
