Jamie Foxx is set to star in Deadlocked, a new action thriller at Amazon MGM Studios, according to Deadline. The film will stream globally on Prime Video.
Directing is Nikhil Bhat, the Indian filmmaker behind the Hindi-language action-thriller Kill. Deadlocked follows a grieving former Marine who gets pulled back into action while serving on a jury. When the trial descends into a hostage crisis and the defendant's daughter seizes the courthouse to free her father, he has no choice but to act.
The screenplay comes from Eric Scot Anderson and Matt Takejiro Bosack, drawn from their original idea. Anderson's prior credits include The Black Fox; Bosack has written for CBS's NCIS: Hawai'i.
Brian Kavanaugh-Jones and Fred Berger produce for Range, with Dave Caplan producing for C2. Foxx also produces through Foxxhole Productions.
For Bhat, Deadlocked marks his first English-language feature. Kill drew international attention on the festival circuit for its close-quarters action sequences. The pairing of that sensibility with an American genre framework and a lead of Foxx's caliber gives the project weight before a frame has been shot.
