George Lucas has a voice role in Minions & Monsters, Illumination's upcoming animated film arriving July 1. Illumination founder Chris Meledandri revealed the casting in an interview with Collider.
The collaboration came together after Meledandri met Lucas about two years ago. "An idea for a character came up out of the story," Meledandri told Collider. "And I just said, 'Well, what if we could get George?' And they're like, 'Are you kidding me?' I had no idea, but I got such a fast yes."
Lucas recorded his lines in France. According to Meledandri, the Star Wars creator has already expressed interest in future Illumination projects. "He's already talking to me about the role he wants to do next in the next Minions movie," Meledandri said.
Minions & Monsters is directed by Pierre Coffin and Patrick Delage. Set in 1920s Hollywood, the film follows the yellow Minions as they attempt to produce a monster film. The voice cast includes Zoey Deutch, Bobby Moynihan, Jeff Bridges, Christoph Waltz, Jesse Eisenberg, Phil LaMarr, and Trey Parker.
The film opens July 1, 2026.
