Curry Barker wants you to see more of Obsession.

In a Rolling Stone interview, the director said there is "a longer version of the movie that I would love to release for sure." The extended cut would run about 20 minutes longer than the theatrical version. Barker is careful to distinguish it from a director's cut. He considers the current release the director's cut. "I did what I wanted for the most part," he told the magazine.

Obsession opened May 13, 2026, on a budget of $750,000. It has since grossed over $525 million worldwide, making it one of the highest-grossing independent films ever made. The film follows Nikki (Inde Navarrette), who becomes dangerously fixated on her crush Bear (Michael Johnston) after a wish goes wrong. Navarrette told NME she is "totally open" to a sequel if Barker writes one.

Barker has previously described the extra footage as including an alternate ending, a longer car monologue, and a fuller version of the film's most debated scene. No platform or release date for the extended cut has been announced. Focus Features, which distributed the theatrical run, would need to approve it.

Barker's next feature, Anything but Ghosts, arrives May 7, 2027 through Focus Features.
