Paramount has released the first full trailer for Children of Blood and Bone, Gina Prince-Bythewood's adaptation of Tomi Adeyemi's debut novel. The film opens in theaters January 15, 2027.
Thuso Mbedu leads as Zélie, a young woman who sets out to restore magic stripped from her people by King Saran (Chiwetel Ejiofor). Her brother Tzain (Tosin Cole) and the king's daughter Princess Amari (Amandla Stenberg) join the quest, while Prince Inan (Damson Idris) begins on the opposing side. The ensemble also includes Viola Davis, Idris Elba, Cynthia Erivo, Lashana Lynch, and Regina King.
Children of Blood and Bone adapts the first book in Adeyemi's Legacy of Orïsha trilogy, published in 2018. The screenplay was written by Prince-Bythewood and Adeyemi, according to Variety. It is Prince-Bythewood's follow-up to The Woman King (2022), which also starred Davis.
Adeyemi has been conspicuously silent around the film. According to The Wrap, she posted, then deleted, a message on social media: "There is a reason I will not post anything about the adaptation of my work. That's all." She did not attend the film's New York launch event and declined further comment.
Prince-Bythewood and Mbedu are set to preview the film at the Martha's Vineyard African American Film Festival ahead of the January release.
