"You Can See Everything" (A24) makes its New York premiere tonight at Alice Tully Hall. Directors Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim are in attendance. The film opened secretly at the 53rd Telluride Film Festival on September 6, earning a 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes from its first reviews.
The 174-minute documentary follows Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes and her partner Billy Evans in the weeks before Holmes began serving an 11-year federal prison sentence for investor fraud. Fielder and Oppenheim spent 34 days inside the couple's home before her incarceration and continued filming for three years. The film is Fielder's feature directorial debut.
Three days before tonight's premiere, Holmes posted a rare personal message on X from prison, signing it with her initials: "I was silenced for a long time. And then imprisoned. I am fighting to prove my innocence and come home to my babies and the love of my life." It was the first post she had signed in her own name since her 2022 sentencing, distinguishing it from posts managed by her social media team.
In A24's trailer, Holmes addresses the camera directly: "I don't have anything to deceive you on. Of course I'm not deceiving you. I'm engaging with you as a human being. Why would I deceive you?" Fielder said at Telluride that the experience "messed with his head." The film opens theatrically on October 16.
