Apple TV+ has announced the cast for The Choir, an eight-episode comedic drama created by and starring James Corden and Ruth Jones. It is their first project together since Gavin & Stacey: The Finale, which drew record-breaking audiences on the BBC.

Hannah Waddingham, James McAvoy, and Jim Broadbent will appear in guest roles. Waddingham won four consecutive Emmy Awards for Ted Lasso. McAvoy’s recent credits include Split and acclaimed stage work in London’s West End. Broadbent holds an Academy Award for Iris. The guest list suggests a show with ambitions beyond the crowd-pleasing.

Corden plays Ben, a man who returns to his small English hometown after years away. Jones plays his estranged sister Lisa. A struggling local choir serves as the unlikely setting for their attempt at reconciliation. The structure is familiar, but the writers created Gavin & Stacey, which ran across three series and two specials. They know this terrain.

The broader ensemble includes Tom Davis, Susan Brown, Jason Watkins, David Harewood, and Rosie Sheehy. Jennifer Sheridan and Jim Archer will direct. The production is a co-commission from Various Artists Limited and TidyTwo, with Corden, Jones, Phil Clarke, and Jack Bayles serving as executive producers.

Production is currently underway. The Choir is scheduled for a global premiere on Apple TV+ in 2027.
