Street Fighter opened wide on October 16, 2026, collecting $4 million in Thursday previews before projections landed it at a domestic opening weekend between $25 and $35 million from 3,300 theaters. Produced by Legendary Pictures and distributed by Paramount, the $82 million film marks the studio's first major theatrical release since completing its Skydance merger.
Critics were not convinced. The film earned a 41% on Rotten Tomatoes from 90 reviews and a 45 on Metacritic. The consensus found the storytelling incoherent and the humor juvenile, though it noted the film's affection for its source material. Variety called it "consistently funny but badly scattered." Polygon went further, calling it "one of the sloppiest, cringiest, and most incoherent films of the year."
Audiences disagreed at scale. The Popcornmeter score landed above 80%, a gap that now defines the franchise. Critics have never warmed to this IP. Fans have never cared.
Director Kitao Sakurai assembled a cast that includes Andrew Koji as Ryu, Noah Centineo as Ken Masters, Callina Liang as Chun-Li, David Dastmalchian as M. Bison, Roman Reigns as Akuma, and Jason Momoa as Blanka. Momoa also served as a producer. The previous franchise entries opened to $6.9 million in 1994 and $4.7 million in 2009. If projections hold, this will be the biggest domestic opening in the franchise's history. Final numbers land Sunday.
