Spider-Man: Brand New Day earned $168 million domestically on its opening day. The figure is a new all-time record, clearing the $157 million Avengers: Endgame posted in 2019. The film's Thursday preview screenings brought in $72 million alone, itself a new preview record. Sony is projecting $325 million for the full opening weekend, with industry tracking as high as $358 million. That figure would threaten Endgame's $357 million domestic opening weekend record.

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the film stars Tom Holland alongside Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, and Jon Bernthal. It earned an A CinemaScore from opening night audiences and holds a 98% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Globally, the film is tracking toward $875 million to $925 million for the weekend, according to The Wrap. Endgame's $1.22 billion global opening remains the record.

One caveat: the opening day total includes Wednesday Prime Video early access screenings and Thursday showings that began at noon, earlier than Endgame's 6 PM Thursday start. More total screenings mean a higher gross floor. The demand is real regardless.
