A24 released the final trailer for Primetime on September 15, 2026. Directed by Lance Oppenheim and starring Robert Pattinson as Chris Hansen, the film opens in select U.S. theaters on September 25.
Primetime dramatizes the 2006 Dateline NBC "To Catch a Predator" segment, in which Hansen became a cultural figure by confronting men who had solicited sex from minors online. The screenplay, written by Ajon Singh and based on a 2007 Esquire article titled "Tonight on Dateline: This Man Will Die," turns the premise inside out: the film positions Hansen as a man whose crusading television persona may obscure something more compromised.
Pattinson stars alongside Merritt Wever, Skyler Gisondo, Matthew Maher, Phoebe Bridgers, Alex Winter, and Bokeem Woodbine. The film world premiered in the Main Competition at the Venice Film Festival and currently holds a 94% score on Rotten Tomatoes based on 33 reviews.
Oppenheim, whose 2020 documentary Some Kind of Heaven traced American self-delusion inside a Florida retirement village, shot Primetime on location in New Orleans in early 2025. The film was developed under the working title Bluefin Tuna.
Primetime opens in select theaters September 25, 2026.
