Netflix and AMC Global Media have closed a co-production agreement, with the spy drama Bannerman as its first series. The deal, described as a first of its kind for both companies, pairs domestic cable distribution in the U.S. with Netflix's international footprint.
Bannerman is based on John R. Maxim's five-book spy novel series. The show follows Paul Bannerman, a lethal covert operative who convinces a group of the world's most dangerous assassins to abandon the intelligence world for suburban Connecticut. Old enemies, a paranoid government, and a relentless ex-cop make retirement look anything but safe.
Shane Black, who wrote Lethal Weapon and directed The Nice Guys and Iron Man 3, co-wrote the first episode and will direct the series premiere. This is his first television project. Craig Silverstein serves as showrunner. Greg Nicotero and Brian Witten also executive produce.
The project was first announced at AMC in 2023. The Netflix partnership moved it into production. "This is the perfect premium drama to kick off our first co-production with Netflix," said Dan McDermott, AMC Global Media's chief content officer.
Distribution splits by territory. In the U.S. and Canada, Bannerman premieres on AMC, then moves to Netflix 90 days after the season finale. In Australia, New Zealand, and Spain, both platforms debut the show together. Netflix holds exclusive rights everywhere else.
No premiere date has been set.
