Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor, two of the four co-directors behind the 2025 Oscar-winning documentary No Other Land, are heading back to the festival circuit. Venice confirmed on August 24 that their new film, Naza, has been added to the main competition of the 83rd Venice International Film Festival. The festival runs September 2-12; Naza will screen in the Sala Grande on September 10.
Naza is the only documentary competing for the Golden Lion this year. Shot at night on the rooftops of Tel Aviv, the film reveals in detail the systems behind Israel's calculated mass killing of Palestinian civilians in Gaza, according to the official Venice festival description. The title is drawn from a military acronym used by Israeli intelligence to denote the expected civilian death toll from a planned air strike. The film draws on investigative reporting into the AI targeting system known as Lavender.
The film is produced by The Guardian and James Wilson of JW Films, with Jonathan Glazer serving as executive producer. Glazer and Wilson previously worked together on The Zone of Interest, which won the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film in 2024. The jury at Venice 83 is led by Maggie Gyllenhaal.
No Other Land documented the forced displacement of a Palestinian community in Masafer Yatta in the West Bank, winning the documentary prize at Berlinale 2024 and the Oscar for Best Documentary in 2025. Abraham and Szor are among the film's four co-directors, and two of the most closely watched documentary voices now active.
