The first full trailer for Mike Flanagan's Carrie arrived Wednesday, confirming an October 7 premiere on Prime Video. The eight-episode series marks the first television adaptation of Stephen King's 1974 novel. Flanagan serves as showrunner, writer, executive producer, and director of episodes one, two, seven, and eight.
Summer H. Howell plays Carrie White, chosen from approximately 1,500 auditions. The series updates the setting: Carrie enters public high school for the first time after her father's death, and the bullying that sets events in motion is rooted in a viral online incident. Stephen King serves as executive producer.
The adaptation diverges from earlier versions in notable ways. According to Screen Rant, Flanagan's take depicts Margaret White as fiercely protective of her daughter rather than immediately abusive, departing from both the novel and previous films. The series also expands the mythology outward, with other women around the world possessing telekinetic powers.
Samantha Sloyan plays Margaret White, with Matthew Lillard as Principal Grayle, Amber Midthunder as Miss Desjardin, and Siena Agudong as Sue Snell. Behind the camera, Kate Siegel directed episode three; Axelle Carolyn, Kyra Sedgwick, and Hiromi Kamata directed episodes four through six.
