Danny Ramirez has joined the cast of Universal Pictures Miami Vice 85, according to Deadline, becoming the sixth named addition to a production that began the year with just two leads.
Michael B. Jordan plays Ricardo Rico Tubbs and Austin Butler plays James Sonny Crockett. Alden Ehrenreich, Camila Morrone, and Whitney Peak have all joined in recent weeks. Ramirez's role in the film has not been announced.
Joseph Kosinski directs from a screenplay by Dan Gilroy. The production will be shot for IMAX and is set for a May 19, 2028 release. The story draws from the pilot episode of the original Universal Television series, which ran from 1984 to 1990 and shaped mid-decade Miami as a defining aesthetic moment in American culture. Miami Vice 85 is not a sequel or continuation but an all-new version of the same material, set against the era's mix of glamour and corruption.
