The Location Managers Guild International held its 13th annual awards ceremony Saturday night at the Eli and Edythe Broad Stage in Santa Monica. Approximately 400 industry professionals attended.

Two of last awards season’s most prominent films took the feature prizes. Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another won Outstanding Locations in a Contemporary Feature Film. The Warner Bros. adaptation of Thomas Pynchon’s Vineland was shot across Humboldt County, Sacramento, Stockton, Eureka, Arcata, San Diego, and El Paso, Texas. Location managers Michael Glaser, Michael Wesley, and Rich Heichel accepted the prize.

Josh Safdie’s Marty Supreme won the period category. The A24 production that became the label’s highest grossing release and earned nine Oscar nominations was scouted across New York City, the Hudson Valley, New Jersey, and Tokyo by location managers Matthew Kania and Ross Brodar.

Location managers work before principal photography, identifying practical locations and negotiating access while the script is still in development. Their decisions shape what the camera finds. Awards seasons rarely make time for this work.

The guild also honored Vince Gilligan with the Eva Monley Award and Mike Fantasia with the Lifetime Achievement Award. The Humboldt-Del Norte Film Commission won Outstanding Film Commission for its support of One Battle After Another’s Northern California shoot. Fritz Coleman hosted.
