Kit Connor and Diana Silvers are set to star in PRƊPPY, a true-crime film from STX Entertainment and Aggregate Films. Janicza Bravo directs from an original screenplay by David Levine and Rose Lichter-Marck.
The film returns to the summer of 1986, when recent high school graduate Jennifer Levin was murdered in Central Park by Robert Chambers, a former Manhattan private-school student. The case became a tabloid fixation and put questions of privilege, class, and sex before a national audience. Chambers earned the nickname "the Preppy Killer."
Connor comes to the project off back-to-back momentum: a Children's and Family Emmy for Heartstopper, a British Independent Film Award for A24's Warfare, and recent confirmation as Cyclops in Marvel's new X-Men film. Silvers, known for Booksmart and Ma, is coming off Ed Zwick's Asymmetry opposite Richard Gere.
Bravo's involvement sharpens the project considerably. She directed Zola and received a DGA Award nomination for FX's The Bear. Her filmmaking tends to find the absurdity and violence hidden inside social conventions, which fits the Preppy Killer story precisely.
