Marvel's MCU X-Men reboot has found its Cyclops. Kit Connor, known for Heartstopper and his recent performance in the war film Warfare, is set to play Scott Summers, according to Deadline and The Hollywood Reporter. Marvel Studios has not formally confirmed the deal.
Testing for the role began after the Fourth of July. Connor emerged from a field that included Drew Starkey, who had been considered before the search narrowed.
The film is directed by Jake Schreier, whose last Marvel project was Thunderbolts. The script comes from Lee Sung Jin, creator of Beef, and Joanna Calo, co-creator of The Bear. That writing pairing signals a film leaning toward character work over spectacle.
Two other roles have been reported alongside Connor's. Sadie Sink joins as Jean Grey, a part introduced through her appearance in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Samara Weaving has been attached as Emma Frost, per earlier reports from Deadline and Variety.
Disney's D23 convention is running in Anaheim this weekend. The event had been widely anticipated as the occasion for a broader cast reveal. No production start date or release has been announced.
