Kevin Bacon is set to star in Summoner, a horror thriller for Amazon MGM written and directed by Jeremy Slater. The project was announced June 23, 2026. It marks Slater's feature directorial debut.
Bacon will play Jefferson Haddock, an exorcist summoned to an isolated witness protection property to confront a demon. The confrontation goes wrong. According to Deadline, Haddock accidentally unleashes a force that endangers himself and everything around him.
Andy Muschietti and Barbara Muschietti produce via their Nocturna banner alongside Russell Ackerman. The Muschiettis previously produced both It films. Dan Kagan serves as executive producer. Shooting is set to begin in fall 2026.
Slater brings substantial genre credentials. His screenwriting credits include Netflix's The Umbrella Academy, Marvel's Moon Knight, Fox's The Exorcist, Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire, and Mortal Kombat II, the last of which earned $126 million worldwide according to Deadline. Summoner will be his first film as director.
For Bacon, the role extends a recent stretch of genre work. He appeared in Netflix's Sirens and Amazon Prime's The Bondsman. He also co-directed the horror-comedy Family Movie with his wife Kyra Sedgwick, which premiered at SXSW 2026. The Muschietti attachment positions Summoner within the current commercial horror landscape, where producer pedigree signals scale.
