Kane Parsons is returning to direct Backrooms 2 for A24, according to multiple reports published this week. The sequel will be his next project, postponing an original film he had been developing with producer Osgood Perkins.
The first Backrooms, released in May 2026, cost $10 million to produce and grossed $394 million worldwide. Its opening weekend of $81 million domestically made it, according to World of Reel, "the most successful film in A24 history, and it's not even close." A24 greenlighted the sequel shortly after.
Parsons, now 21, was hired by A24 at 17 after his YouTube short film series under the alias Kane Pixels accumulated over 200 million views collectively. He subsequently signed a three-year deal with the studio worth approximately $65 million, according to World of Reel, which includes a bonus for completing two films within the contract period.
A formal announcement had not been made at the time of reporting, though sources described it as imminent. Backrooms 2 would be Parsons' second feature.
