John Goodman has joined the cast of Skeletons, the upcoming Sony Pictures horror film starring Brie Larson and directed by JT Mollner. The casting marks the third collaboration between Goodman and Larson, who previously shared the screen in The Gambler in 2014 and Kong: Skull Island in 2017.
Mollner is best known for Strange Darling, the stylishly constructed 2024 thriller. Skeletons is his first feature since, and the scale of the project is clear: Sony Pictures acquired worldwide distribution rights for a reported $25 million at the 2026 European Film Market.
The screenplay was written by Brian Duffield, who penned the nearly dialogue-free sci-fi thriller No One Will Save You, based on a short story by Philip Fracassi. Mollner revised the script. The story is told from the perspective of a twelve-year-old boy who gradually uncovers a disturbing secret about his parents. His mother experiences dangerous transformations. His father has built a containment room.
J.J. Abrams produces through Bad Robot alongside Drew Simon, Jon Cohen, and Jack Heller. FilmNation Entertainment's Infrared label and Assemble Media also produce. Kyle Gallner, Willa Fitzgerald, Ione Skye, and Daithhi O Haragain complete the cast. Principal photography began June 22, 2026, in Australia. The film is targeting a 2027 release.
