Germany has named Sandra Wollner's Everytime as its official submission for the Best International Feature Film category at the 99th Academy Awards. A nine-member jury appointed by German Films selected the Austrian-German co-production from a longlist of 11 films.
The choice carries weight. Everytime won the Un Certain Regard Award at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival, where it premiered on May 18. The film follows a mother, her daughter, and a teenage boy who travel to Tenerife in the wake of a tragedy, confronting grief, blame, and forgiveness on a family holiday that never happened. Birgit Minichmayr leads the cast alongside Tristán López and Lotte Shirin Keiling.
Everytime is Wollner's third feature. The film's 121-minute runtime holds its emotional reckoning at an unhurried pace: past and present quietly overlap as the three characters navigate a shared wound under the Tenerife sun. The film also took the Heart of Sarajevo at the 32nd Sarajevo Film Festival.
Under new Academy rules, Germany submitted multiple titles that qualified through festival wins. Yellow Letters, winner of the Golden Bear at Berlin, and Shame and Money, winner of the Sundance Grand Jury Prize, also enter the international feature category via those prizes. Everytime carries the official country selection above them.
The Oscar shortlist of 15 finalists is set for December 15, 2026. Nominees will be announced January 21, 2027.
