Extraction 3 is in production. Netflix confirmed filming began in Australia this week, with Sam Hargrave returning to direct alongside star Chris Hemsworth. The notable addition: Idris Elba.

Elba plays Alcott, the operative who engineered Tyler Rake's prison escape at the close of Extraction 2. The third film picks up from that cliffhanger. According to movieweb.com, Alcott pulls Rake "into a highly dangerous global mission" spanning India, Thailand, Prague, and Australia. Golshifteh Farahani also returns as Nik Khan.

David Weil, the showrunner behind Citadel, wrote the screenplay. Filming runs through early October 2026, with a Netflix release targeted for late summer or fall 2027. Hemsworth announced the start of production on Instagram with the caption: "E3 here we go." Netflix followed with a credits slate: "Chris Hemsworth. Idris Elba. Sam Hargrave. EXTRACTION 3 is now in production."

The franchise is expanding beyond the main series. Netflix has two spin-offs in development: TYGO, starring Don Lee, and Mercenary, led by Omar Sy. Extraction 3 is the first title in the expanded universe to begin shooting.
