Sony Pictures has pre-emptively acquired Penthouse, an original high-concept thriller from Drew Pearce, with Tom Holland attached to star and produce, according to Deadline. Pearce is set to direct.

For Pearce, Penthouse is his return to the director's chair. He last directed Hotel Artemis in 2018, a near-future crime film he also wrote. In the eight years since, he has worked primarily as a screenwriter, with credits including Iron Man 3, Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw, and The Fall Guy.

Holland is producing through Billy17, the banner he runs with his brothers Harry Holland and Will South. Ian Fisher will executive produce for Pearce's Point of No Return. The plot is being kept under wraps. According to Deadline, the project is being developed as a starring vehicle for Holland.

The deal follows Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which crossed $2 billion worldwide according to Joblo, cementing Holland as one of Sony's most commercially reliable stars. Penthouse gives the studio an original vehicle for him outside the Marvel framework.

No production timeline or additional casting has been announced.
