Alejandro G. Iñárritu's Digger has its final trailer. Warner Bros. released the second and last look at the satirical black comedy today, September 9, ahead of the October 2 theatrical and IMAX release.
Tom Cruise stars as Digger Rockwell, a corrupt oil tycoon described as "the most powerful man in the world" who must race to contain the ecological catastrophe he caused. The ensemble includes Riz Ahmed as Ganesh, a scientist and presidential assistant; John Goodman as President Compson; Sandra Hüller as Emma Rockwell; Jesse Plemons as Kenny; Michael Stuhlbarg as the Vice President; and Emma D'Arcy as Lina.
The trailer leans into the film's absurdist register. A Greenland iceberg nicknamed "Judy" threatens global destruction. The tagline: "Digg or die. A man. A plan. A meltdown." Comparisons to Dr. Strangelove have followed the project since first footage surfaced, and this final cut does little to discourage them.
Produced by Legendary Pictures and distributed by Warner Bros., Digger carries a $125 million budget. It was shot at Pinewood Studios in the UK in VistaVision, with Emmanuel Lubezki as director of photography. The screenplay was co-written by Iñárritu, Alexander Dinelaris Jr., Nicolás Giacobone, and Sabina Berman. The film marks Iñárritu's first English-language feature since The Revenant.
