Marvel revealed its next Black Panther at San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday. David Jonsson, the British actor known for Alien: Romulus and the HBO series Industry, will play T'Challa II. The character is the adult son of Chadwick Boseman's T'Challa, born Toussaint, introduced in the post-credits scene of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022). The film arrives December 15, 2028.
Ryan Coogler is returning to write and direct. "He grows up, comes of age, and we had to find an incredible actor," Coogler said at the panel, according to Joblo. The production will shoot in 70mm. Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, and Lupita Nyong'o are all returning, with Denzel Washington also attached in an unconfirmed role.
Jonsson received the news with measured restraint. "I actually don't want to say too much because I want to let the screen do the talking," he said, according to HuffPost. Wright called the casting "really beautiful" and described Jonsson as a "special person."
The third film arrives after Avengers: Secret Wars, positioning it as the first post-Multiverse Saga chapter for Wakanda. Whether T'Challa II takes the mantle from his aunt Shuri, who currently holds the Black Panther title, remains unanswered. Jonsson steps into the role carrying a franchise that has never fully settled the question of where it goes without its founder.
