Netflix released the first trailer for "The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth" on September 21, confirming a November IMAX release for one of fall's most unusual studio films. David Fincher directs from a Quentin Tarantino script, with cinematography by Erik Messerschmidt.
The story is set in 1977, eight years after "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood." Cliff Booth, played again by Brad Pitt, has traded his stuntman career for work as a Hollywood fixer. A call from talent agent Karen Crosby sets the plot in motion. Elizabeth Debicki plays Crosby; Scott Caan plays TV star Charlie Peters. Carla Gugino, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Peter Weller, and Timothy Olyphant round out the ensemble.
The film's origin is part of its appeal. According to The Wrap, Tarantino originally wrote the script as his intended tenth and final directorial project before choosing not to helm it and granting Fincher permission to direct. Brad Pitt and Ceán Chaffin produce.
The film opens in IMAX November 25 before streaming on Netflix from December 23, a two-week theatrical exclusivity window. It replaced "Narnia: The Magician's Nephew" in Netflix's IMAX slot, making this the streamer's first film to receive an IMAX theatrical run. Whether it plays as a completed Tarantino vision or something distinctly Fincher's is the question audiences will settle this winter.
