The Daniels, Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, are directing an untitled event picture at Universal, according to Deadline. The film is set for release on November 19, 2027, and its cast is assembling around two distinct generational poles. Logline details remain under wraps.
Matt Damon serves as the film's primary lead. Sean Kaufman is in negotiations to join as the lead of a younger ensemble group, which also includes Sandra Oh and Charles Melton. Sources told Deadline that the younger ensemble "will have equal footing in the film" alongside Damon.
Kwan and Scheinert are producing alongside longtime collaborator Jonathan Wang through their Playgrounds banner, which holds an overall deal at Universal. Sara Scott and Jacqueline Garell are overseeing for the studio.
Kaufman rose to prominence playing Steven in Prime Video's The Summer I Turned Pretty, one of the platform's most-watched originals.
The project would mark the Daniels' first theatrical feature since Everything Everywhere All at Once, the 2022 multiverse comedy-drama that won seven Academy Awards including Best Picture and Best Director. That film built its world on generational friction. The new Universal project, with its deliberate split between Damon's generation and Kaufman's, suggests the Daniels are returning to familiar structural terrain.
