Craig Gillespie is in early talks to direct Homewreckers, Legendary Entertainment's erotic science fiction thriller starring Glen Powell, according to Deadline. Powell is set to star and produce. Warner Bros. is attached to distribute.
The film is based on a novella by Neil Paik, who is adapting the material as the screenplay. The project landed at Legendary in a competitive situation in December 2024. A search for the female lead is currently underway.
Homewreckers centers on Henry, played by Powell, and his wife Beth, a couple navigating marital strain built on suspicion and emotional distance. As Henry becomes consumed by the possibility of infidelity, Beth receives a surreal offer: the chance to rekindle romance with a younger version of her husband through advanced AI technology. The film has been compared to the erotic thrillers of Adrian Lyne, particularly Unfaithful, and to Alex Garland's Ex Machina.
Gillespie is a DGA Award winner whose film credits include I, Tonya, Cruella, Dumb Money, and Lars and the Real Girl. His DC Studios feature Supergirl, starring Milly Alcock, opens June 26. If the deal closes, Homewreckers would mark a return to his more intimate work.
Powell continues to expand his footprint as both a performer and a producer. His recent credits include Top Gun: Maverick, Hit Man, and Twisters. Homewreckers would represent a departure from that commercial terrain into mature genre territory.
