Coyote vs. Acme opened to $15.5 million domestically in its debut weekend, placing it at No. 2 behind Spider-Man: Brand New Day. For director Dave Green and distributor Ketchup Entertainment, the number means something more specific: the film exists.
Warner Bros. Discovery shelved the completed live-action animation hybrid in November 2023, taking a reported $30 million tax write-off rather than releasing it. The decision came alongside similar choices under the studio: Batgirl and Scoob! Holiday Haunt were also cancelled. The move drew public protests and a high-profile change.org petition, neither of which reversed it.
Ketchup Entertainment acquired the film in early 2025 for approximately $50 million. The studio previously held the record for indie opening weekends with 2024's The Day the Earth Blew Up at $3.1 million. Coyote vs. Acme's debut is five times that figure. With a reported production budget of $70 million and an additional $10 million in marketing, the break-even point sits around $120 million.
The film stars Will Forte as a down-on-his-luck attorney representing Wile E. Coyote, with John Cena and Lana Condor in supporting roles and Eric Bauza voicing the coyote. James Gunn is among the producers. It holds a 95% score on Rotten Tomatoes and earned a CinemaScore of "A." Green responded to the opening on social media: "Which means one thing. WE WON."
Spider-Man: Brand New Day took $22.2 million in its fifth consecutive weekend at No. 1, bringing its worldwide gross to $2.33 billion.
