Disney's live-action Moana opened to $43 million domestically this weekend, placing first at the North American box office but falling well short of the studio's initial $60 to $65 million projection. Overseas, the film added $52 million for a $95 million global launch against a reported $250 million production budget, according to Deadline. The result ranks among the weakest openings for any Disney live-action remake, landing near Snow White's $42 million domestic debut in 2025.

Critical reception compounded the story. Moana holds a 34% score on Rotten Tomatoes, the lowest of any direct Disney live-action adaptation. Deadline reported the film could lose between $100 million and $125 million in its theatrical run.

Evil Dead Burn debuted in fourth place with $13.7 million domestic and $13.3 million international, a $27 million global start. That figure lands 44% below Evil Dead Rise's 2023 opening of $24.5 million, according to ComingSoon. The film's reported $20 million production budget positions it for eventual profitability.

Toy Story 5 contributed $18.5 million in its fourth weekend, pushing its domestic total to $403.7 million. The Pixar sequel is on pace to become the fourth-highest-grossing Pixar film ever. Minions & Monsters fell 44.6% in its second frame to $20.5 million. Young Washington rounded out the top five with $6.4 million, down 66.7% from its debut.
