Blumhouse Productions and Atomic Monster have crossed $1 billion in combined worldwide box office for 2026, the second time the merged labels have reached that figure since their 2024 partnership. The milestone arrived this week as Curry Barker's Obsession pushed past $500 million globally.
Obsession leads the year. Released May 13 on a $750,000 production budget, the horror-thriller has earned more than $501 million worldwide, returning over 650 times its production cost. According to Deadline, it is now the highest-grossing film in Blumhouse Atomic Monster history, surpassing The Conjuring: The Last Rites at $499.2 million. Deadline also noted it is the lowest-budgeted film to top the North American box office since Paranormal Activity in 2009.
Atomic Monster contributed its own landmark entry. Backrooms, a co-production with A24 and 21 Laps Entertainment, opened to $118 million globally in May, the third-biggest horror opening in box office history and A24's highest-ever opening weekend. The film has since earned $394 million worldwide on a $10 million production budget.
Two more releases remain on 2026's calendar: Other Mommy on October 9 and Resident Evil before year-end. Horror built cheap and built for repeat viewing has outperformed every other genre on budget efficiency two years running. The math for anyone still questioning the model is now hard to argue with.
