Steven Soderbergh has stepped in to finish principal photography on The Batman Part II following a pause in production. Director Matt Reeves left the London set earlier this month to address a family matter. About six to seven weeks of filming remain.

Soderbergh approached Reeves directly and offered to help. According to DC Studios, the two will work closely with the actors and crew to complete Reeves's vision. "I thought Matt Reeves' work on The Batman was stunning; it was intentional, specific, and rigorously coherent," Soderbergh said. "The goal here is to work with Matt and his team to generate footage that will integrate seamlessly." DC Studios added: "Matt has the full support of DC Studios and we look forward to continuing the journey soon."

Reeves will remain in contact with Soderbergh throughout the remaining shoot and return to oversee post-production when he is ready. The film is still dated for February 18, 2028, though sources note it is too early to say whether the pause will affect that schedule.

Robert Pattinson returns as Bruce Wayne alongside Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, and Colin Farrell as Oz Cobb. New additions include Sebastian Stan as Harvey Dent, Scarlett Johansson as Gilda Dent, and Charles Dance as Charles Dent. The script is by Reeves and Mattson Tomlin. Dylan Clark, James Gunn, and Peter Safran are producing.

Soderbergh is a precise and efficient filmmaker, known for adapting quickly across formats and genres. Whether his instincts can hold the visual grammar Reeves established in The Batman is the question the final cut will answer.
