Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender will premiere on Paramount+ on July 25, 2026. The date was confirmed on July 15 alongside the release of the first full trailer. What was planned as a theatrical October opening is now a streaming premiere. The redirected path follows a full-film leak in April: according to The Wrap, an alleged leaker has been arrested and faces seven years in prison.
The film had been repositioned multiple times before this point. It was originally set for theaters in late 2025, then shifted to early 2026, then to October 9. Director Lauren Montgomery has expressed that she believed the film warranted a theatrical audience. The move to streaming is the third major revision to the release strategy.
The film picks up the story roughly twenty years after the original animated series ends. An adult Aang confronts a threat to Airbender culture. The voice cast includes Eric Nam as Aang, Dave Bautista as the antagonist Tagah, Steven Yeun as Zuko, Jessica Matten as Katara, and Román Zaragoza as Sokka. The screenplay is by Tim Hedrick and Christopher Yost. Series co-creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko produced alongside Latifa Ouaou and Maryann Garger.
The animated feature is intended to bridge the gap between the original series and The Legend of Korra, filling in years of Aang's story that were not covered onscreen. The 2010 live-action adaptation directed by M. Night Shyamalan received widespread criticism. Comic-Con attendees in San Diego will screen the film on July 24; the global Paramount+ premiere follows the next day.
